Default Alliance & Leicester loses my money, adds £100's in charges, ruins my credit score, finds my money and then serves me no

Basically, my bank lost my money and it’s costing me dearly!

I am currently out of work but manage to scrape enough money by each month to put into my bank to cover my outgoings. But Alliance and Leicester don't have a branch in my home town of Banbury so I have to pay money in at any post office.

I paid £200 into my account via a local village post office on the 2nd of March but it never made it to my account. The error caused all direct debits to be declined by my bank resulting in charges both from my creditors and the bank. These charges then pushed my account over its agreed overdraftautolinker.com autolinking image limit. On the 27th of March the bank found my money and credited my account but they have not taking any action to rectify any of the charges that themselves and my creditors have charged me or the huge amount of damage done to my credit score, which I think is ruined!

The massive amount of fees that the bank has charged me, and continues to add, has put me well beyond my agreed overdraft limit and is placing a huge burden on me financially. As I am currently out of work I am just about affording to pay my monthly bills but since they lost my money and added all these charges, even though it is their entire fault, I cannot afford to pay both them and my creditors.

I have tried to reclaim my charges and filled in the appropriate paperwork but instead of them taking action they have sent me a letter saying they never got it along with another set of forms to fill in.

To top it all off today they sent me a letter titled ‘DEFAULT NOTICE SERVED UNDER SECTION 87(1) OF THE CONSUMER CREDIT ACT 1974 stating that if I do not bring my overdraft down by tomorrow they will take action. This is totally unfair and unreasonable! My account is only over its limit because of them losing my money and the ridiculous amount of charges they’ve added and secondly sending a letter that arrives on the 7th and states I have to pay in funds by the 8th is not really giving me much time!

I hope this article is of interest to you as I am just one man trying to take on a big institution and having no luck whatsoever. This whole situation is becoming very stressful and Alliance & Leicester seem more interested in charging me more fees and causing me more stress than actually fully correcting their mistake! It’s now gotten to the stage where they are driving me towards bankruptcy.

What should I so?

Have first of all cleared up the first post with the copy and paste from MS Word I think.
The bank first of all needed to have investigated your complaint. Did they? Did you initially speak with them/write to them?
Have they sent any written correspondence with regards to the missing amount?
Once I know that I can advise your next move. From the reading of the post, they have to put you back to a position if that error had not occurred. So that is charges refunded, letters to various creditors stating that they had made this mistake, charges made by your creditors as a result, plus a compensatory amount.
